The sequel to the 1998 science-fiction OVA Kite, Kite: Liberator will be released on DVD in Japan on March 21 then four days later it will be released in North America on March 25. Originally it was planned to release in late January in Japan, but that date was pushed back due to unspecified production issues. The distributor, Media Blasters, who holds the North American license to the original Kite, co-produced Liberator and will be distributing this 57-minute film.
There have been few anime to premiere in both Japan and North America in the same week. Among those is Akitaro Daichi’s Grrl Power, which was officially scheduled in North American two days before the Japanese release. And Afro Samurai aired on Spike TV four months before it aired on Japan’s WOWOW channel (in a director’s cut edition).
