According to their press release, Right Stuf has acquired the Princess Knight anime. It will be released under the Nozomi Entertainment label in two limited-edition DVD box sets next year. This will be the first time the series will be available in North America on licensed DVD.
Princess Knight (also known as “Ribbon no Kishi”) is a 52-episode series from 1967 based off of the manga by Osamu Tezuka. Princess Knight is the tale of Princess Sapphire who was given a boy’s heart by mistake before birth. She must pretend to be a man in order to inherit the throne and to protect the kingdom from her evil uncle. Vertical Inc released a two volume set of the manga last year.
The DVDs will feature the original English-language dub and a Spanish-language audio option. Unfortunately, not all the materials were able to be collected and this box set will feature a cut version of the show and no Japanese audio track.
