According to Bleacher Report, National Hockey League (NHL) commissioner Gray Bettman admitted the leaked document about the negotiations between the League Office and Japanese anime studios for the partnerships. Bettman said it’s one of the options to propagate the sport of hockey and nothing has been fixed yet.
Experts believe the candidate studios are Kyoto Animations, MAD HOUSE Studios, and J.C. Staff. The preliminary deal includes new anime episodes aired on TV and scoreboards in the breaks between periods of games, and anime appreciation events collaborating with NHL.
Professor Scott Galloway (New York University) said NHL will gain numbers of new viewers if they succeed in the partnership because the demographic of anime fans overlaps little with current NHL fans.
