According to Nikkei Newspaper May 30, Shougakukan will suspend the publication of the “Seinen” manga magazine Weekly Young Sunday. Main reason for the decision is the decrease of the readers due to the shift of their interests from magazines to the separate comic books. In 1995, the circulation of the magazine reached 680,000, but it dropped to 200,000 in recent years. Shougakukan will also stop publishing the “Josei” manga magazine Monthly Judy.
They are now considering the transfer of the ongoing popular series “Kurosagi”, “Dr. Kotoh’s Clinic”, “TomeHane!”, “Aoi Honoo” etc. to other magazines.
