Discotek announced that they have acquired rights to the first The Fist of the North Star anime movie, with a planned DVD release date of May 2009. They will be using the newly-remastered version that Toei released in Japan in September 2008, with the original Japanese dubbing and an English dub.
Fist of the North Star is based on a manga by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara, and was directed by Toyoo Ashida. Besides this movie, originally released in 1986, 3 more anime movies and a live action movie were released later. The movie is an alternate version of a TV series that began airing in 1983 and ran for 109 episodes. Two sequels to the TV show were also released.
