Pikachu Gets Scientific Namesake

A team of researchers in Osaka, Japan have discovered a new protein that they named after Pikachu, a character in the popular series Pokemon. The protein, called Pikachurin, deals with transmissions from the eyes to the brain which is why they named it after the character because of its quick moves. The research team hopes to find treatments with this protein for a specific hereditary cause of blindness.
